HaloSilver is built by SoftStackers, LLC dba HaloSilver, a software company in Texas and an AWS partner. Here is where the product came from and why we keep working on it.
Someone in our family was being worked by a scammer, and we did not know until a lot of money was already gone. It was not one dramatic moment. It was weeks of quiet messages, a new friend who was always in a crisis, then gift cards, then a wire, then the excuses for why none of it could be talked about.
What we remember most is the helplessness. There was nothing to look at. No statement to check, no inbox we had any business reading, no honest way to ask what was going on without turning it into an accusation. By the time anyone in the family had enough to go on, the decision had already been made and the money had already moved.
Afterward we went looking for the thing that should have existed and would have given us a few days of warning. We did not find it. So we built it, first for ourselves, and it became obvious pretty quickly that other families were living the same weeks we had just lived.
None of this is a new problem. Banks and card networks have been running pattern detection on this exact behavior for years. When an account starts doing something out of character, somebody gets a call. Billions of dollars of engineering has gone into watching for the shape of fraud, because the money at stake belongs to institutions.
At home there is nothing. The pressure lands on an aging parent, on a screen, in a chat window, hours or weeks before it ever touches a bank. That is the part nobody watches, and it is the part where a family could still do something. Halo is one honest attempt to close that gap: the software reads the text on the screen, looks for the pattern, and tells the person who cares what it saw and why.
We are careful about what we promise. HaloSilver does not catch everything, and no software does. Scams that stay entirely on the phone are invisible to it. What it does is give a family a reason to make a phone call sooner than they otherwise would have.
The uncomfortable part of building this is that a tool for watching over someone can very easily become a tool for spying on them. We drew the lines early and we hold them.
