Why we built this
We built this for ourselves first.
We watched someone we love get taken advantage of, and felt the anger, the frustration and the helplessness of having no visibility into it until a significant amount of money was already gone.
Nothing out there would have caught it in time, so we built what we needed. Then it was obvious other families needed it too.

You do the setup, together or on your own
A small app installs on their Apple or Windows computer in a few minutes. Nothing for them to manage, no new hardware, no password to remember.
Over eleven days this contact moved from friendly messages to a gift-card request, and twice asked her not to mention it to family. That pattern is the scam, not the request.
It watches for the scam, not for them

Honest answers.
Does the protected person have to do anything to set this up?
No. You lead the setup. You install HaloSilver on their computer and create the alert account. The protected person does not need an account, a password, or anything to manage. Once it is running, they do not need to think about it.
We do ask that the protected person knows HaloSilver is there and consents to it. The honest framing: "It tells me if someone's trying to trick you, not what you're doing." Most people accept this readily when it is framed as protection rather than surveillance.
Can you see the protected person's screen?
No, you never see their screen, and neither do we. Screenshots never leave their computer. HaloSilver checks the redacted, on-screen text for scam signals and adds a plain-language alert to your portal when it flags something risky. It does not track browsing, read every message, or show you what they are doing.
An alert shows the offending text, the reason HaloSilver flagged it, and a suggested step. That is the complete picture of what is shared with you.
What if the protected person doesn't want it?
HaloSilver is installed with their knowledge and consent. If they are not comfortable with it, it should not be installed. HaloSilver is designed for situations where the protected person understands the risk and welcomes the protection, even if they find the technical side of setting it up unfamiliar.
The framing that tends to help: leading with a specific recent news story about scams targeting older adults, then explaining that HaloSilver only looks for scam patterns, not activity. "It's like a smoke detector. It doesn't watch what you cook. It just lets me know if something is burning."
Which computers does it work on?
Mac and Windows computers, both today. A small desktop app, no browser extension required. Phones, tablets, and Chromebooks are not covered yet.
How long does setup take?
Most caregivers are fully set up and running in 10 to 15 minutes. You install HaloSilver on the protected person's computer, add other people to the alert loop, and the monitoring begins. The desktop app walks you through each step, and we're glad to help by email any time you'd like it.
Will it cry wolf?
Sometimes it will flag something that turns out to be fine, and we would rather that than the reverse. We keep working to cut down on that noise as we learn from real alerts.
